Trails

The Pekoe Trail crosses Sri Lanka’s central highlands over 22 stages, linking tea country, forest paths and small mountain communities between Kandy and Ella. You do not need to walk the entire route to experience its character: two or three carefully chosen stages can fit naturally into a wider island journey.

The terrain changes constantly. One morning may begin above a tea estate with wide views across folded green ridges; the next may follow a shaded footpath through eucalyptus, pines and village gardens. Local trains and roads make it practical to use one town as a base and pick the stages that match your pace.

Wear shoes with good grip, carry water and allow more time than the distance suggests. The reward is not a finish line but the quiet detail along the way: tea pluckers at work, old tracks between estates and the warm welcome at a village tea stop.
